What is an EA form in Malaysia?
An EA form (C.P 8A) or Borang EA is a summary of an employee’s annual compensation and required contributions.
Employees in the private sector will get the EA form each year as an earnings statement. The EA form includes details on a worker’s statutory contributions, salary, supplemental compensation, additional tax deductions, and current rebates.
Why are EA forms important?
EA forms are necessary for personal income tax purposes. The EA form can be used as a guide to disclose the right amount of yearly earnings and deductions when filing income tax returns.
With the EA form, employees can determine their income tax bracket.
How do you get an EA form?
The employer provides EA forms to the employees. Every year, by the end of February, employers must prepare and distribute the EA forms.
Employers are able to download the yearly form through the LHDN website.
When do you need to submit your EA form?
Form EA (C.P 8A) must be submitted to your employees by the last day of February following the end of the financial year (31st December).
This is their individual statement of remuneration from the financial year and allows them to put together their individual tax returns.
It does not need to be submitted to IRBM.
The 2022 deadline for EA form submission is on 28 February 2023.
What are the penalties for late submission of the EA form?
Failure to submit the EA form on time may result in a fine of up to RM 20,000 or up to 6 months in jail.
