What is MyKad in Malaysia?
MyKad is Malaysiaโs identification card (Kad Pengenalan Malaysia in Malay). It is also known as an NRIC (National Registration Identity Card).
The MyKad identity card contains a microchip that can store data and biometrics.
Does MyKad have additional functions?
Aside from being a form of identity verification, MyKad offers additional, optional applications that individuals may use for daily tasks.
These range from storing basic health information, functioning as a travel card, storing digital cash, and more.
Who issues MyKad?
MyKad is issued by the National Registration Department (JPN) in Malaysia.
How do you identify a MyKad number?
MyKad holders are assigned a unique number identifier that contains 12 digits.
The general format of MyKad is YYMMDD-PB-####.

The first six digits of the MyKad number are the date of birth of the cardholder:
YY = Year
MM = Month
DD = Day
PB
The place of birth of the cardholder determines PB.

The last four digits on MyKad are computer-generated numbers provided by the National Registration Department of Malaysia.
Who is eligible for MyKad?
All Malaysian citizens 12 years old or above are eligible for a MyKad.

What forms of ID can international workers get in Malaysia?
International workers who are not citizens are not eligible for a MyKad and can get MyPR, a similar identity card for permanent residents in Malaysia.
